Telit joins forces with Google

Telit Wireless Solutions, has announced a collaboration with Google Cloud Platform to launch the first IoT Big Data Challenge, a competition aimed at promoting and accelerating innovation around the Internet of Things.

“Our relationship with Google and the forthcoming launch of the IoT Big Data Challenge is a natural extension of our deviceWISE ecosystem, and progression of our ONE STOP. ONE SHOP. strategy,” said Oozi Cats, CEO of Telit Wireless Solutions. “The Telit m2mAIR Cloud solution, coupled with Google Cloud Platform, and the genius of the world’s developers, is the perfect confluence of expertise to bring forth and maximise the benefits of the Internet of Things.”

Developers from around the world are invited to create Web-based and mobile applications based on data from a wide variety of connected sensors and devices. Participants will use Google Cloud Platform to harvest the IoT data in order to illustrate the power and simplicity of developing compelling IoT solutions.

The IoT Big Data Challenge aims at harmonising the worlds of connected devices and cloud computing in a simple and seamless fashion – bringing new opportunities for all. The collaboration between Telit and Google Cloud Platform unlocks the full potential of the Internet of Things. Cloud experts no longer need to know the ins-and-outs of IoT and the cloud is no longer intimidating for connected device experts.

The IoT Big Data Challenge encourages developers to submit innovative applications with the broadest possible scope and purpose within the following categories:

  • Business Transformation
  • Healthy and Happy Living
  • The Good of Mankind

A panel of judges will review all submissions and select winners based on innovation, commercial impact and benefits to society.  The IoT Big Data Challenge is open to individuals, teams and organisations from around the globe and winning entries will be featured at events in North America and Europe.

When reviewing submissions, the judges will look at a wide range of criteria when evaluating how the application promotes and accelerates the benefits of the Internet of Things, including:

  •  Innovation Factor
  • Potential Commercial Impact
  •  Scalability and Leverage of Other Applications
  • Best Use of Telit Data and Google Cloud Platform Developer Resources
  • Look and Feel
  • Entertainment Value
  • Why Didn’t We Think Of That?

Registration and a kick-off Webcast are scheduled for December 2, 2014 at 11 a.m. ET.  Submissions will be due on January 9, 2015, and winners will be notified by e-mail and announced for the Americas and Asia at deviceWISE Global Summit Miami on January 27, 2015, and winners for Europe, Middle East and Africa will be announced at a Google Cloud Platform event in London on February 3, 2015.
