There have been four major industrial revolutions. The first, Industry 1.0, was the introduction of the mechanical loom in 1784. The second, Industry 2.0, was the introduction of the assembly line in 1913 by Henry Ford. The third, Industry 3.0, was the introduction of the PLC (programmable logic controller) in 1969. Now, with recent advances in M2M communications and B2B IoT, we are justified by employing the term Industry 4.0.
